The first satellite of Google-supported FireSat constellation has reached orbit, marking a new era in wildfire monitoring. Developed by Muon Space and the Earth Fire Alliance, the system will eventually comprise over 50 satellites, imaging Earth's surface every 20 minutes. The initial phase, operational by 2026, will include three satellites providing twice-daily global coverage. Equipped with multispectral infrared cameras, FireSat offers 5-meter resolution imagery, significantly improving upon current wildfire tracking methods. This breakthrough promises near real-time updates on fire behavior for firefighters.
