Websites and online delivery services at grocery chains belonging to Dutch supermarket operator Ahold remained offline for a fifth day on Friday after what the company described as a cybersecurity incident. The incident prompted Ahold to shut down some of its own IT systems. Physical stores remain open. An Ahold spokesperson said the parent company cannot comment on the situation at individual chains. US brands such as Stop & Shop, Giant Food, Hannaford and Food Lion are part of the group. Ahold’s Albert Heijn chain, the Netherlands’ largest, has been gradually recovering from a shutdown that began on 11 October, which disrupted distribution centres and led to empty produce shelves. Albert Heijn does not expect online delivery to resume before Sunday. The company said it is working with internal teams, external cybersecurity experts and authorities, and that it cannot share further details while the investigation continues.
