An AI Startup Says This Headset Can Help You Control Your Dreams

AI startup Prophetic wants to change how people sleep, with a headband device called the Halo that could spark and control lucid dreams. Associated with REM sleep, lucid dreams are dreams where the dreamer is aware that they are dreaming (and can sometimes control elements of the dream). The young company is hard at work on a prototype it wants to release by the end of November. The Halo will work with the prefrontal cortex of the brain, which is the site of self-aware lucid dreams, by detecting when users are dreaming and then attempting to stimulate a lucid state with pulsing ultrasound waves. It will also supposedly be able to stabilize lucid dreams already in progress, though Prophetic does not specify how stabilization would map out. After a $1.1 million funding round earlier this year, Prophetic partnered with Card79, the same company responsible for building hardware for Elon Musk’s Neuralink, to create the prototype.
