A team from the University of Utah developed a dual-mode power pack that harvests energy from light and tears. They built the device, by combining a flexible silicon solar cell with a new device that converts tears into energy. The harvesting occurs literally in the blink of an eye, and it can reliably supply enough electricity to operate smart contacts and other ocular devices.
