OpenAI is removing limits on text-based chats for free and Go users of ChatGPT. The change arrives as the service has crossed one billion weekly users. GPT-5.6 Luna will become the default model for these tiers, replacing GPT-5.5. Free and Go users will also receive a new Think button that lets them select higher reasoning for complex questions. Limits will still apply to files, images, voice and image generation. Plus and Pro users gain an upgraded GPT-5.6 Sol model designed for quicker tasks such as questions, research, advice, planning and writing. The company says the model produces more compact and robust answers. Paid users also receive a thinking slider to adjust how much reasoning the model applies. Internal tests showed factual errors were 62 percent less common with GPT-5.6 Luna and 68 percent less common with GPT-5.6 Sol compared with GPT-5.5 Instant. The Sol update is available now for Plus and Pro.
