China Unicom unveiled a $390 million data centre in Xining, powered by 23,000 domestic AI chips, aiming for 20,000 petaflops of computing capacity. Most chips come from Alibaba’s T-Head, which provides approximately 72% of the supply. This initiative is part of China's effort to reduce reliance on foreign technology, notably from Nvidia. As tensions rise with the U.S., the centre's completion signals a significant shift toward self-sufficiency in advanced technology.
