The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced $24 million in awards for small businesses across 30 states and the District of Columbia. The 111 projects funded by DOE’s Office of Science focus on computing, advanced materials, and scientific instrumentation to advance the department’s clean energy mission. Small businesses play a vital role in translating scientific breakthroughs into marketable products, and DOE’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs support this transformation. Phase I research and development awards cover technical feasibility, with potential for Phase II funding for prototype or processes development. Projects include radiation-hard sensors, artificial intelligence, geothermal applications, digital processing electronics, hydrogen production, and nuclear reactor core simulations.
