U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents conducted a record 14,899 searches of electronic devices from April to June 2023, a 17% increase from early 2022. Most searches are "basic," requiring travelers to provide device passwords for inspectors to access contents without additional technology. Although citizens can't be denied entry to the U.S., device seizure is possible for password refusal, intensifying debates over the constitutionality of such practices in the judicial system.
