Exclusive: G7 to agree AI code of conduct for companies

The Group of Seven (G7) industrial countries is set to establish a voluntary code of conduct for companies involved in advanced artificial intelligence (AI) systems. This code aims to govern AI use, particularly focusing on safety, security, and trustworthiness, addressing concerns about privacy and security. The G7, along with the European Union, initiated this process during the "Hiroshima AI process" in May. The 11-point code encourages organizations to take measures to identify, evaluate, and mitigate AI-related risks throughout the AI lifecycle. It also emphasizes transparency through public reporting of AI system capabilities, limitations, and any misuse. The EU has already taken steps to regulate AI with its AI Act, while other countries have adopted a more laissez-faire approach to boost economic growth. The G7's code of conduct is seen as an interim solution until comprehensive AI regulation is in place, providing a foundation for safety in AI development and usage.
