A public policy think-tank conducted a webinar on the "Simplification of the GST Regime: Towards a Sustainable and Inclusive Growth of MSMEs" to discuss regulatory changes for India's thriving MSME sector, focusing on the government's vision for a 'Trillion-Dollar Digital Economy'. Representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Trilegal, E&Y, Deloitte, and Best Life – an e-commerce seller, participated in the discussion. The panel proposed the implementation of a single home-state Principal Place of Business (PPoB) registration, aligned with the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee on Commerce, and virtual PPoB registrations for small sellers. The discussion highlighted the importance of digital invoicing for B2C transactions, facilitating electronic returns filing and supporting the government's strategy. It also highlighted the government's recognition of e-commerce as a game-changer for MSMEs and the need for simplified procedures for scalability.
