Google has launched a Gemini agent for the workplace that is designed to act more like a colleague than a traditional chatbot. Announced at the Gemini at Work event, the agent can handle knowledge work, content creation, coding and question-answering from a single prompt. It operates inside Google apps including Gmail, Drive, Docs and Calendar, and also works across web, mobile, desktop, Slack and Microsoft 365. The agent runs in the cloud, maintains persistent context across devices and can pursue goals over several days. It automatically selects the best model for each task and includes cost controls plus enterprise-grade security and governance. Companies can create “coworker agents” that receive their own corporate identity, dedicated email address in the form @agents.company.com, calendar and storage. These agents can act on behalf of a team or a specific role and only access information the organisation chooses to share.
