Google will launch a pilot of its developer verification program in October, requiring participants to pay registration fees in US dollars, thus introducing a financial barrier. Apps that fail validation will not be installable on certified Android devices. Initially targeting Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand, the policy is slated for a global rollout by 2027. F-Droid urges users and lawmakers to oppose these restrictions, warning they could stifle competition and threaten alternative app distribution.
