Government Initiatives to Boost MSMEs

The Indian central government is contemplating several measures to enhance support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). These measures include policies to integrate MSMEs with international markets, digital support for global competitiveness, simplification of Goods and Services Tax (GST) compliance, and the provision of low-cost credit. The government is expected to announce these measures in the interim budget on February 1, with detailed schemes possibly unveiled in the full budget for 2024-25 by July. The focus is on addressing the high cost of credit, a major impediment to MSME growth, and making the sector globally competitive. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted the importance of integrating MSMEs with international trade for global prosperity. The government aims to support MSMEs by offering affordable credit facilities and streamlining GST processes, enhancing their resilience in global markets and contributing to economic growth and employment.
