In a review article, Ali and collaborators highlight the potential of these technologies to revolutionize climate-smart, precision agriculture by monitoring food safety, quality, and plant health globally. Rapid, accurate, early monitoring is deemed crucial to sustainably feed the growing global population, expected to reach nearly 10 billion by 2050. The article underscores the need for interdisciplinary collaboration, urging agronomists, engineers, medical experts, and materials scientists to work together to address the food crisis. The researchers emphasize recent advancements in food sensor technology, focusing on toxins, humidity, pH, freshness, temperature, contaminants, and pathogens.
