Fraudsters use fake Aadhaar cards or stolen Aadhaar numbers to withdraw money from bank accounts through the Aadhaar-enabled Payment System (AePS). It is to be noted that the frauds are generally the result of Aadhaar details getting compromised in day-to-day usage and then fake calls, SMS, and online links used by fraudsters to dupe people. Biometric locking and unlocking is a service that allows an Aadhaar holder to lock and temporarily unlock their biometrics. Fingerprint, iris, and face as biometric modalities will be locked, and after biometric locking, the Aadhaar holder will not be able to perform the Aadhaar authentication using the above-mentioned biometric modalities. The biometric unlock can be done by either visiting the UIDAI website, the enrollment center, or Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) through m-Aadhaar. A registered mobile number is essential to avail of this service.
