Increased mandates on small businesses can be harmful to local economies, group says

Illinois' small and Main Street businesses, which employ over 1.6 million workers, are often burdened with taxes, red tape, and onerous regulations. The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is committed to advocating for Illinois job creators and small businesses, particularly focusing on areas such as the government's micromanaging of the employer-employee relationship, the winding down of the COVID-19 stimulus windfall, and the state's estate tax exemption. NFIB is also working to align Illinois' estate tax exemption with federal law to provide needed relief to family-owned businesses. The NFIB is also monitoring any program or policy changes that would increase the tax burden on job creators and small businesses. The NFIB is also exploring opportunities to pursue clean-up legislation to clarify confusing language and limit the negative impact on small businesses.
