India anticipates 70-75% annual growth in 5G smartphone shipments

India is experiencing a surge in 5G smartphone shipments, with an anticipated annual growth of 70-75% during the current festive season. Earlier this year, there was already a 65% year-on-year increase in 5G handset shipments up to July. This growth spans various segments, with value-for-money 5G smartphones (priced between Rs 7,000 and Rs 25,000) showing a robust 61% year-on-year growth, while premium 5G smartphones (priced at Rs 25,000 and above) recorded a significant 68% year-on-year growth. Samsung leads the 5G shipments with a 25% market share, followed by Vivo at 14% and OnePlus at 12%. Despite a 6% decline in the overall Indian smartphone market in Q2 2023 compared to the previous year, 5G smartphone shipments surged by 45% year-on-year, capturing a 47% market share. This growth is attributed to the enhancement of network satisfaction by 30% compared to 4G. 5G users in India engage significantly in streaming HD video, video calling, mobile gaming, and augmented reality.
