Google has launched an emergency security patch for Chrome following the discovery of a high-severity vulnerability, identified as CVE-2025-5419, and already exploited by hackers. The flaw affects Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine and permits unauthorised data access. Google’s Threat Analysis Group spotted the issue and released a fix on May 28; an updated version has now launched, which also rectifies a secondary bug, CVE-2025-5068. Users are advised to update and restart Chrome immediately.
