Meta has introduced a test of a trending feature called "Today’s topics" within its Threads app, initially rolling out in North America. The feature displays algorithmically determined trending topics in search results and personalized feeds. Despite recent announcements regarding the exclusion of political posts, political content may surface in this feature. Users can limit political content through settings. Today’s topics will appear in the search tab and as a carousel while scrolling through Threads. Threads, a text-based social networking app spun out from Instagram, aims to compete with Elon Musk’s X. Developed by the Instagram team, Threads requires initial login through Instagram accounts and offers features like stickers and polls for better engagement. Meta intends to expand the feature to additional regions after testing.
