Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang said he would halt chip supply to a customer building unsafe AI, describing the scenario as hypothetical. In a Bloomberg interview in London he said the company would talk to the customer first, noting that Nvidia does not run other people’s companies and that its technology is general-purpose. He also said the current level of concern about AI safety is not warranted and framed many fears as growing pains. His preferred response is to accelerate containment and monitoring technology, which Nvidia is building a team to develop and sell. The company has already used tighter approved-buyer lists in markets such as Singapore, Malaysia and Japan. Huang has previously argued against new laws that would slow the industry and in favour of pausing only if a product becomes unsafe. Nvidia is also supporting UK research into agentic AI safety with about $250 million in compute access over five years for institutions.
