A new global study by Tata Consultancy Services finds that while 84% of executives rank productivity gains as the top benefit of AI, only 10% of enterprises allow AI agents to make decisions across multiple business functions without human approval. Just 9% report that their AI agents can securely coordinate workflows across different enterprise applications. The TCS Enterprise AI Study: Intelligence that is Real surveyed 1,333 senior business and technology leaders across 25 countries and 12 industries. Security, risk management, and governance rank as the leading factors shaping AI deployment, ahead of cost or speed. Ninety percent of respondents consider model independence important, yet only 7% have organization-wide plans for switching AI providers. Thirty-four percent rate AI sovereignty requirements as a high or very high risk. The findings highlight a clear gap between current productivity value and readiness for greater agent autonomy.
