OpenAI has introduced GPT-6.1 Terra, a model designed to interact with computer apps rather than only generate text. Launched on 26 October 2026, it can visually understand the screen, click, type, and switch between applications to complete multi-step tasks such as copying invoice details into accounting software, filling forms, or turning architectural drawings into 3D models. OpenAI says it completes tasks roughly three times faster on average than heavier models such as GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Astra, and standard API prices are 50% lower than the prior Terra version, at about $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens. Internal tests showed simple-task error rates falling from 53.6% to 16.7% with maximum reasoning effort. Coding performance roughly doubled on complex terminal benchmarks. Terra is positioned as a mid-range option between lightweight Luna and heavier Sol and Astra and is available in ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Enterprise, and Edu, and Amazon Bedrock.
