The Indian government is set to revolutionize the ride-hailing industry with Sahkar Taxi, a cooperative-based platform that enables drivers to retain 100% of their earnings. Unlike traditional services that charge 20-40% commission, this national-scale initiative will operate under a multi-state cooperative society, registering two-wheelers, rickshaws, and four-wheelers. Announced by Home Minister Amit Shah, the platform will launch in FY26 with support from the National Cooperative Development Corporation, offering drivers stakeholder status through share capital contributions. The model aims to challenge Uber and Ola's 50% market dominance while ensuring fair pricing for customers.
