Signal has launched a new opt-in feature for end-to-end encrypted chat backups, enabling users to restore messages even on damaged or lost devices. Currently available for beta Android users, it will expand to iOS and desktop after testing. Users can back up text messages and up to 45 days of media for free, with a $1.99 monthly subscription for extended features. "Media requires a lot of storage, and storing large amounts of data is expensive," stated Jim O'Leary, VP of Engineering.
