SPECIAL REPORT-US and China race to shield secrets from quantum computers

Canadian cybersecurity firm Quantum Defen5e (QD5) warns the U.S. Department of Defense about the impending threat of quantum computers rendering current encryption useless by 2025, termed ""Q-day."" QD5's EVP, Tilo Kunz, emphasizes a global effort to harvest data now for decryption later. The race to quantum computing dominance intensifies, with China investing heavily. Amid concerns of data vulnerability, the U.S. and allies work on post-quantum cryptography, while China pioneers quantum communication networks. QD5 proposes an advanced one-time pad, the Q PAD, for secure communications. China's quantum efforts, led by physicist Pan Jianwei, aim to secure data networks and infrastructure. The race to protect critical data from quantum threats continues globally, with the potential for significant economic and security implications. One challenge for the keepers of digital secrets is that whenever Q-day comes, quantum codebreakers are unlikely to announce their breakthrough.
