Standard Chartered is moving its artificial intelligence strategy from experimentation to enterprise-wide execution. At a media roundtable in Kuala Lumpur, senior technology leaders outlined foundations built on trusted data, resilient infrastructure and workforce readiness. Incoming Group Chief Information Officer Alvaro Garrido said success depends on data quality, infrastructure resilience, governance and people rather than technology alone. The bank already operates a single Enterprise AI Platform known as the AI Factory, a unified global data architecture, AI-supported payments, GenAI Concierge and Microsoft Copilot. Group Chief Data Officer Shebani Baweja said more than 150 disconnected data systems are being consolidated into a single Global Data Supply Chain by the first half of 2028. Around 80% of risk controls are now codified and 90% of key controls are continuously monitored through automated AI guardrails.
