Tata Consultancy Services has opened the Industrial Autonomy & Engineering Lab – Lights-Out Factory at its Sahyadri Park campus in Pune. The company calls it India’s first lights-out factory lab for advancing AI-led manufacturing. A lights-out factory is one where autonomous systems run production lines with minimal human intervention. The live multi-stage setup lets manufacturers prototype, validate and scale AI-first production systems while cutting deployment risks. It combines digital twins, robotics, industrial AI, factory control systems and real-time operational intelligence. Supported use cases include predictive maintenance, automated quality inspection, real-time process optimisation, and autonomous factory operations. Sreenivasa Chakravarti, Global Head of Industrial Autonomy and Engineering at TCS, said the lab shows how a Human + AI model can move enterprises from digitally enabled operations toward increasingly autonomous production.
