Apple's AirTag item tracker has been credited with helping a US family track down their stolen luggage and the thief during a vacation to the North Carolina mountains. The family arrived at Charlotte Douglas International Airport last week and couldn't locate one of their luggage at baggage claim. However, Catherine Gavino, a member of the family, hidden an AirTag inside the luggage and tracked it down to a house in Gastonia, North Carolina. The police discovered the family's suitcase and another victim's stolen suitcase at the airport. Gavino reported that another passenger had the same issue and had an AirTag. The suspect was arrested and charged with multiple theft crimes. AirTag has also helped a passenger track his lost wallet, even after American Airlines couldn't find it. The passenger shared the incident on X, mentioning that he had AirTag in his wallet, which he used to track the lost wallet.
