US services sector growth slows moderately

In September, the U.S. services sector saw a slowdown with new orders hitting a nine-month low, but Q3 economic growth was on track, according to the Institute for Supply Management (ISM). The services sector remained above 50 on the non-manufacturing PMI, indicating growth, despite a dip from 54.5 to 53.6. Growth estimates for Q3 were optimistic at a potential 4.9% annualized rate, with several industries growing, while accommodation, food services, and wholesale trade declined. Inflation in the services sector remained high, with rising prices reported in twelve service industries. The labor market stayed strong despite higher borrowing costs, but supply issues caused a slight dip in employment. Overall, the U.S. economy displayed resilience, but concerns about inflation and labor market dynamics are influencing Federal Reserve's monetary policy decisions.
