USDoT looks to harness AI power with $15m initiative on Complete Streets

The US Department of Transportation (USDoT) has initiated the Complete Streets AI Initiative, allocating $15 million through its Small Business Innovation Research program. The project encourages small businesses to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance transportation. Complete Streets prioritizes safety, comfort, and connectivity for all users. Up to 10 phase I contracts will be granted to small businesses developing data and analytics capabilities to aid agencies in planning such streets. Dr. Robert C. Hampshire, principal deputy assistant secretary for research and technology, emphasizes the importance of comprehensive data for planning complete streets. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg applauds AI innovation, expressing how the funding supports small businesses in deploying cutting-edge technologies to improve local communities and enhance street safety.
