Walmart introduces AR eyewear try-on tech

Walmart has introduced augmented reality (AR) technology for virtual eyewear try-ons, allowing customers to visualize over 750 eyewear options through its website or app. Utilizing 3D data and algorithms, Walmart creates a digital twin of eyewear frames. Customers can customize lenses by uploading prescriptions and capturing pupillary distance via facial scan. Following online orders, customers can seek assistance at Walmart Vision Centers. Walmart aims to have over 3,000 Vision Centers in the U.S. by 2024 and has enhanced training for over 4,000 opticians. This AR tool follows Walmart's 2022 acquisition of Memomi, and aligns with its broader tech-focused initiatives, including AR try-ons for cosmetics, furniture, and decor. The AR optical tech company had been providing its digital measurement tools to Walmart and Sam’s Club customers since 2019. Walmart has also introduced AR try-on capabilities for makeup, furniture and decor.
