A recent survey, the SIDBI – D&B Sustainability Perception Index (SPeX) for Q2 2023, highlights that 73% of MSMEs have not set sustainability targets, and 25% lack internal expertise in sustainability. Only 10% recycle over 75% of their water consumption. Key challenges include the need for technical support, capital, and monetary incentives for sustainability. The survey includes 250 respondents, mainly micro and medium companies. Despite recognizing the importance of sustainability, there's a decline in awareness, willingness, and implementation scores. Policymakers are urged to provide incentives, tax benefits, and training programs for MSMEs to adopt eco-friendly practices. The survey indicates room for improvement in awareness and a willingness to enhance sustainability measures. Around 50% of MSMEs claim to use energy-efficient equipment and engage in waste and energy reduction and recycling.
