AI innovation: Why all players do not have a fair shot

Bhaskar Roy, Client Partner for Asia-Pacific at Fractal Analytics, emphasizes two key drivers of AI innovation: powerful GPU chipsets and access to data. Big tech companies have an advantage due to their vast data repositories, which newer players must either acquire at high costs or collect through expensive primary research. Additionally, some countries monopolize semiconductor production, impacting equitable access to GPU chipsets. To promote equitable access, Roy suggests the creation of data-sharing sandboxes where anonymized data can be shared for public benefit, allowing all players a fair chance in AI development. He also calls for global consensus to prevent anti-competitive practices and sanctions. The G20 Summit in New Delhi discussed ethical AI development and regulation, with plans to continue these discussions at G20 Brazil, highlighting the growing importance of global AI regulations.
