The Association of Indian Entrepreneurs (AIE), based in Chennai, is seeking clarity from the MSME ministry on the "status of MSMEs" in India based on the annual report, aiming to formulate or revise policies for a deeper positive impact on the MSME sector. Founder Chairman KE Raghunathan highlighted discrepancies between the Udyam portal registrations and the 2015-16 national sample survey data, questioning whether MSMEs existing before 2017 have wound up. Raghunathan seeks clarity on the number of closed MSMEs, state-wise data, reasons for closure, and the need for sector-specific schemes. Additionally, he requests updates on MSME-related schemes, including the Subordinate Debt for Stressed MSMEs, Equity Infusion Scheme, and Emergency Credit Line Guaranteed Scheme, highlighting the slow progress of the Credit Guarantee Scheme for Subordinate Debt. The AIE urges the government to align schemes with sector needs and administer effective support.
