Amazon is blocking Meta’s new AI agent Muse from shopping on its marketplace. Users attempting to complete purchases through Muse now see a warning that continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon’s Conditions of Use. Meta launched Muse earlier this month as a personal agent that can take actions such as shopping and paying via Link by Stripe. Amazon’s terms require autonomous agents to identify themselves, avoid imitating humans and not circumvent interaction limits. An Amazon spokesperson said third-party applications that offer to make purchases on behalf of customers should operate openly and respect a service provider’s decision on whether to participate. The company stated that Meta did not inform it that Muse would access the storefront, that the agent does not identify itself, and that it appears to capture and store customer credentials, raising security concerns. Amazon is itself testing its own shopping agent, Buy for Me.
