A new Bentley University-Gallup survey shows Americans are growing more familiar with AI yet less trusting of it. Seventy percent now say they are somewhat or extremely knowledgeable about the technology, up from 64 percent previously. At the same time, 39 percent believe AI does more harm than good, up from 31 percent in 2025. Among 18- to 29-year-olds the figure reaches 47 percent. Only 9 percent say AI does more good than harm. Nearly three in four respondents trust companies to use AI responsibly "not much" or "not at all." Trust is even lower among young adults. Seventy-nine percent believe AI will reduce the total number of jobs, the highest level in four years of polling. People increasingly rate AI as matching or beating humans at tasks such as financial advice and homework help, and they see gains in driving and medical advice. The data suggest that greater exposure is not automatically producing greater acceptance.
