Anthropic has made Claude models available with in-country inference in India through Amazon Bedrock. Claude Opus 5, Sonnet 5, and Haiku 4.5 can now process requests via an India endpoint on servers located within the country. The rollout, first signalled in August, targets data residency needs of regulated organisations, including banks, government bodies, and large enterprises. Requests stay in India rather than being routed overseas. Deployments include audit trails and access controls that compliance teams typically require. Irina Ghose, Anthropic’s managing director for India, said customers, especially in regulated sectors, want to use Claude on critical work with every request processed locally. AWS India and South Asia president Sandeep Dutta noted that data residency often decides whether AI remains in pilots or reaches production. Early customers included Reliance and CRED. The move supports Anthropic’s push to expand enterprise adoption in one of Claude’s largest markets.
