Anthropic has reported that Claude now leads about 26 percent of its artificial intelligence research and development work. That figure is up from less than 1 percent in February. The company also said more than 90 percent of its AI research involves AI collaborating with humans or taking on a higher level of responsibility. Anthropic estimates that around 30,000 AI agents are working on research and engineering through its main internal platform at any given time. Monitoring systems flag roughly 100,000 agent transcripts each week, of which only about 50 are escalated to humans as high-priority cases. A real-time monitor blocked just 0.002 percent of more than a billion agent decisions in August. In a sample week in July, about 6 percent of the compute allocated to AI R&D went to safety work; the share rose to around 12 percent when looking only at AI-driven R&D.
