The three processes of authentication, identification, and authorization are currently receiving more attention than ever as a result of the planned changes to the eIDAS regulation (electronic Identification, Authentication and trust Services). Digital authentication can be achieved through tokens or biometric data. Passwordless authentication, on the other hand, relies solely on a high-security factor like the user's fingerprint, making authentication convenient and fast for the user. Biometric authentication is considered the technology of the future, with futuristic concepts like iris scans. Identity wallets, promoted by the EU, enable authentication for many more online transactions. Users can create an identity wallet on their smartphones by identifying themselves via NFC-based functions of their ID card or video identification processes. Biometric factors and identity wallets will be closely intertwined to enable users to easily and securely identify themselves online.
