Researchers introduced a wireless Broadband Acousto-Mechanical Sensing (BAMS) system for continuous physiological monitoring, addressing significant causes of neonatal and pediatric mortality. Current wired hospital monitoring systems face limitations, but BAMS utilizes skin-interfaced, wireless sensors for simultaneous acquisition of diverse signals. The system captures body movements and sounds, allowing spatiotemporal monitoring of respiratory, cardiac, and gastrointestinal functions. BAMS, applicable to all ages, comprises microphones, inertial measurement units, wireless charging, and Bluetooth technology. The study demonstrated BAMS's reliability in neonatal intensive care, comparing well with FDA-approved monitors. In chronic lung disease patients, BAMS revealed distinctions in sound intensities, frequencies, and airflow, providing valuable diagnostic insights. This technology offers versatile, continuous patient monitoring for both home and hospital use.
