Cisco is preparing to give every one of its about 90,000 employees a personalized AI agent. The rollout starts in the new fiscal year at the end of July. CFO Mark Patterson explained that the company prioritizes efficiency over always using the most powerful models. They built a system that picks the right model for each task based on effectiveness and cost. This avoids burning tokens on frontier models for everything. Much of the AI infrastructure is on premises for better cost and data control. Each agent can answer questions, complete routine tasks, route requests, and help with workflows. AI agents are more resource intensive than simple chatbots because they handle multi step processes. In finance, AI already drafts 80 to 90 percent of the management discussion section. They also have tools for investor relations and a developing cfo cockpit dashboard. Cisco pairs the rollout with training so employees experiment and find new uses.
