Anthropic has added a browser directly into Claude Cowork. When a prompt needs the web, the tool now opens a custom browser in a side panel instead of driving Chrome through an extension. The change is on by default for Enterprise users and is rolling out this week to Pro, Max and Team plans. Users or admins can switch back to the Chrome extension in settings if they prefer. The built-in browser is kept deliberately limited. It has no access to email, banking or other logins unless someone enters them by hand. That makes it suited for public information rather than acting in a user’s personal accounts. Anthropic is not a designated gatekeeper under the Digital Markets Act, so the in-app browser avoids the choice-screen rules that apply to major platforms. Prompt injection risks remain the same as with the extension. OpenAI recently took a similar path by folding its standalone Atlas browser into a Work mode with its own built-in browser.
