Hundreds of shared Claude conversations became publicly searchable on Google over the weekend. A Reddit user found that the query site:claude.ai/share pulled up lists of chats. Some contained health records, private company documents, crypto wallet keys, and children's phone numbers. A few also included erotica generated despite safety rules. The problem came from Claude's share feature, which creates a public link anyone with the URL can view. Anthropic said it does not give search engines chat directories or sitemaps. Links only appear in results if users post them somewhere crawlers can find, such as forums or social media. Private chats stayed private. Google said site owners control indexing and it respects those directives. By the time reports emerged, Anthropic had already removed the chats from search results. Users can still manage or delete shared history under Settings > Privacy > Shared Chats. Similar exposures hit Claude, ChatGPT, and Grok last year.
