Commerce ministry provides relaxation to micro, small enterprises in implementation of Quality Control Orders

The Indian commerce ministry has announced an extension of timelines for the implementation of Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for copper products and drums and tins, granting micro and small enterprises an additional six months and three months respectively. With a focus on enhancing the quality of domestically manufactured products and curbing the influx of substandard imports, over 60 new QCOs covering 318 product standards have been developed, including those for copper wire rods, copper strips, and various types of drums and tins. The enforcement of these quality standards is expected to bolster the Make in India initiative and restrict the manufacture and sale of non-BIS certified products, ensuring adherence to quality norms. Offenders may face penalties or imprisonment in accordance with the BIS Act, 2016, with exemptions for goods manufactured for export.
