Forward-deployed engineer job postings in India grew nearly 19-fold between June 2025 and June 2026, according to data from the job portal Indeed. Postings rose 1,807% year-on-year in June 2026 before moderating, yet remained about 16 times higher year-on-year in July and more than six times higher in August. The surge reflects demand for engineers who work directly with customers, understand operational problems, and make technical solutions that deliver measurable outcomes as companies scale generative AI, machine learning, and automated workflows. Indeed, India's managing director Sashi Kumar said employers want engineers who can sit with a customer, unpack a real problem, and make the technology work in practice. Listings typically seek skills in Python or Java, data engineering, machine learning, generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation, AI agents, cloud, APIs and full-stack development, plus communication and stakeholder management.
