From underwater swarm drones to fire-fighting robots, Navy partnering with MSMEs & start-ups for niche techs

The Indian Navy is actively advancing its development of niche technologies through its 'Swavlamban' initiative, partnering with startups and MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises). The initiative focuses on collaborating to create innovative technologies and streamlining procurement processes. Navy Vice Chief Vice Admiral S J Singh announced significant progress, including the approval of 12 cases valued at around Rs 1,500 crores and procurement orders worth Rs 200 crores. Several prototypes and products developed under the 'SPRINT' challenge will be showcased at the Swavlamban seminar-cum-exhibition in New Delhi. Notable developments include a fire-fighting robot designed to detect and extinguish fires on ships. The Navy has exceeded its commitment to develop 75 niche technologies and products, engaging nearly 100 new firms, thereby enhancing self-reliance and indigenous capabilities in defense technology.
