Google Pay joins Paytm, PhonePe to offer international UPI service

Google Pay is expanding its offerings by collaborating with NPCI Payments International Limited (NPIL) to introduce UPI services for users traveling abroad. This strategic partnership aims to enable users to make payments to foreign merchants through Google Pay UPI in the respective local currency, effectively eliminating the need for international cards, be it debit, credit, or forex. The service is currently operational in several countries, including Singapore, Australia, Canada, the USA, and the United Kingdom. Furthermore, Google Pay is set to join the league of apps and banks facilitating peer-to-peer remittances via UPI, initially between India and Singapore. This move is expected to provide a seamless and secure means for users of Singapore's PayNow and India's UPI to instantly transfer money across the two nations. Notably, other platforms like BHIM, PhonePe, Paytm, and various banks are part of this cross-border interoperability initiative.
