Google's Chrome Browser to Conceal Your IP Address: A Significant Development

Google is developing a feature for its Chrome browser that allows users to conceal their IP addresses from websites without a VPN. This move aims to combat cross-site tracking by establishing proxy IP addresses, making it challenging for sites to identify individual users. The initial test will cover Google-owned domains, with plans to expand to third-party domains if successful. The feature is designed not to disrupt legitimate operations reliant on IP addresses. Following the initial test phase, the IP Protection would move to a two-hop proxy system, which involves an external network running a proxy for the initial proxy. The primary objective of this feature is not to hide users’ IP addresses from every website but to block it specifically for traffic intended for tracking users beyond traditional cookies.Google's privacy efforts align with the rollout of its Privacy Sandbox and the plan to disable third-party cookies by 2024.
