Government studies ways to support MSMEs

The Indian government is contemplating a series of measures to bolster micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), including policies to integrate them with international markets, digital support for global competitiveness, simplified Goods and Services Tax (GST) compliance, and access to low-cost credit. These measures are anticipated to be announced in the interim budget on February 1, with detailed schemes possibly unveiled in the full budget for 2024-25 by July. The government aims to address the high cost of credit, a significant obstacle to MSME growth, with a focus on making them globally competitive. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized the importance of integrating MSMEs with international trade for global prosperity. The government is focusing on enhancing the competitiveness of the MSME sector through affordable credit facilities, simplifying the GST system, and redefining its scope.
