In 2022, the country witnessed a staggering 100% surge in cyberattacks compared to the previous year, particularly affecting critical sectors like healthcare, education, research, government, and the military. Cyfirma's report highlighted a significant increase in attacks on Indian government agencies, soaring by 95% in the latter half of 2022 compared to 2021. The healthcare sector is increasingly vulnerable to cyber threats like phishing, malware, and ransomware, attributed to India's global prominence, tech-savvy population, and geopolitical motives. The report highlights the severe cyber threats originating from China, North Korea, and Russia, with 78% of Indian organizations facing ransomware attacks in 2021 and ongoing campaigns in 2023.
